Why I watch films.
I always grew up enamored by the colorful, moving screen. I noticed myself attracted to the television even without any sound on. After realizing this about myself and my response to the television I remember asking someone about it. I recall them saying to me, “Movies are a visual attraction, while entertainment like musicals are mostly a auditory attraction,” although they both are important in each genre.
I loved mostly watched movies growing up because my parents didn’t get cable, but I never minded. Because it wasn’t a steady stream of a show-commercial mixture, sitting down in front of the TV was an event. My parents; five siblings, give or take a couple; and I would sit down and have ourselves a moment together. Movies surely know how to pull the strings of my emotional heart and cause me to feel deeply. Many times have I sobbed during the movie and well after due to the Pathos snuck in.
I believe that looking at the story of the film industry origin can be a keen tell into why film ever started a genre and why it’s important to us. American spirit after WW1 was at a low after a tireless battle, but also technology was growing very popular at this time. To help spirits and pride climb again, movies were invented and that got war off the mind of the people. They started paying attention to the hottest new movie and the hottest stars. I always had favorite actors and actresses; I would find myself searching for movies that Geoffrey Rush, Sandra Bullock, Jim Carey, and other favorites were in just because I wanted to see them again.
On my mental list of “Life’s best Moments,” I would always put my dad’s and my movie dates. We always pick a heroic action movie, especially like The Matrix, or The Italian Job, and make popcorn. Just the two of us. The moments I get to spend with my parents alone are always special because I have so many siblings.
Lastly, I must point out the love I have for the soundtracks of movies themselves. I think that is why people are so attracted to the film genre. You get that extra pull of emotion when you add selected harmonies and yet another variance of music genres.
